Personalized food guides for hungry travelers.
Hey! I’m Mitch (👋). I’m a writer, researcher, and dedicated enjoyer of food. Here on Off We Go to Eat, I find unique restaurants, shops, stalls, stands, joints, holes-in-walls, and occasionally experiences, for other enjoyers of food. I put those findings together into a curated dining guide — a collection of vetted food options — to spice up your next adventure.
If you like to travel, and you like to eat, but (understandably) find finding restaurants in unfamiliar places a daunting task…

Guides are curated to blend your personal preferences with the dining culture of your destination. We all want to eat what’s good in, and what’s unique to, the place where we’re eating. We want to enjoy exciting variations on what we love, and encounter new flavors we hope to dream about. We want the dim warm candlelit dining room with the table by the window and a view of the sparkling city; and we want plastic stools under a tarp with a paper plate, surrounded by meat smoke and loud music and conversation in a language we may never understand. I try to put all of that, what you want and what the place and its people offer, into each guide.
Guides flex to your trip. You don’t have to be going far — this could be a guide to your own city, or a place you’ve only dreamed of and finally have the opportunity to visit. A weekend stay in a mountain town, a month-long multi-city tour through Europe, or a deeper dive into your own backyard (figuratively, I can’t get that specific); wherever you’re going where you want to eat works for me. Prices start at $50 for one location guide — but will adjust to your needs as well.
Guides are not guarantees; but they’re strong recommendations. I do my best to thoroughly vet every stop I recommend in a guide — but in most cases, I haven’t been there myself. And even if I have, food is a living industry, and restaurants living businesses; from one day to the next, from one person to the next, you might have a different experience than myself or others. But that’s why I request your personal preferences; so I can recommend the places where you, not I, will have a great time. I don’t suggest any place I wouldn’t go myself — but it’s your trip, and the focus is on you.
Okay now let’s get started (click me).

"We knew more about each destination before we arrived, ate at wonderful spots I don’t think we would have found on our own, and were thoroughly prepared to explore, meet the local people and dive into adventure!"

"Mitch's recommendations for our trip to New Orleans took us everywhere we needed to go but didn't know on our own. His suggestions don't stop at cuisine and vibe, they break down what we specifically will like about the place and how to best fit it into our trip. Because of this, we ended up in a backyard wonderland in a lesser known part of New Orleans, listening to Jazz, and drinking at a treehouse bar which, if you know us, was the definition of perfect. No notes!"

"The food guide Mitch created for our trip to Berlin made our trip fantastic. We had unique, delicious and over the top food experiences at every meal. There is no way we would have gotten the "taste of Berlin" that we did without his direction."

"Mitch has a way of ferreting out hidden gems in ANY city. I have used his guides for my clients when traveling abroad as well as for myself. His pallet ranges from super basic to very complex. He found me award winning restaurants in Lisbon, killer stands in Cascais, and awesome bars in Marrakesh. His attention to details and goals that his clients are looking for is unmatched. I will continue to use his expertise for my future clients."

I’ve adapted several food guides into blog posts over at my newsletter, Off We Go (like a herd of turtles). Actual guides will come in the form of Google Docs that I’ll share directly with you — but these should give you a good idea of the type of content I typically provide.
